About Skymatters

SkyMatters specializes on the fast growing O2O digital marketing campaign and building digital activation platform, LOOP. LOOP is a unified cloud platform that enables your brand to engage with consumers quickly, inexpensively and making your products smart.

Position Description

The position is to work with our technical director and the other software engineers on the main platform LOOP. Your primary focus will be to develop both server-side logic and client-side look and feel, and join our feature and development discussion and planning. If you are stronger or interested in either server-side or client-side, we would also consider.

By joining Skymatters development team as a key member, you will have the opportunity to work on live projects used by big corporates and millions of individuals from different countries. The team does not only deliver reliable features, but also decent code.

Requirements

No less than 3 years of experience in Ruby on Rails development
Degree in computer science or software engineering is preferred but not a must
Experience in Aliyun deployment and optimization, Wechat Official Account development and digital marketing in China is a big bonus
Motivated individual with a strong analytical mind

Responsibility

Design, build and maintain efficient, reusable and reliable Ruby code
Integrate data storage solutions, including databases and key-value stores
Make user-friendly and responsive interface with ReactJS, Bootstrap and HTML5
Identify system bugs and devise solutions to the problems
Help maintain code quality, organization and automation
Optimize applications for speed and scalability

Benefit

No less than RMB 20k/M for the senior role and negotiable for junior and middle level positions
40 hours a week, 12 days of paid leaves + Hong Kong Public Holidays (~ 17 days a year)
Work from wherever the (real) Internet is available, unless you want to join our Hong Kong team!

Qualifications: • Degree in computer science or software engineering undergrad and masters in computer science is a bonus. • Programming experience in one or more of the following: Ruby on Rails, HTML, CSS, Javascript/jQuery/angular • Motivated individual with a strong analytical mind • Strong proven problem solving skills through university projects and courses. • Self driven, motivated, organized, goal oriented, independent and able to take full ownership and responsibility for actions

加上 selenium 做 javascript driver 做测试，觉得这么好的个东西似乎用的人不多

不同 Rails 版本下 env 的不同

最近发现 Rails 3.0 和 3.1 之后的版本在 env 构成上差别很大，可以在一个 Exception 页面里的"Show env dump" 里查看。

Rails 3.0.11 里 env 会包括所有 controller instance variables, 而 3.1+ 里的 env 会简洁很多。估计是 rack 版本差别导致的，不知有没有人留意这个？

新加坡 Red Dot Ruby Conf 归来

一些小小的个人见解：

1.不是所有的讲题和内容都是”稀有的”. 很多讲者讲的东西，台下精通的人不在少数，甚至研究更深的都有

2.不是所有的讲题都涉及 Ruby 或者 Rails. 还是想很多有关运作性能，前端开发和架构分析的内容

3.最重要的一点，我始终认为一个听众通过 Conference 可能会有所启发，但是更大成长可能会在于在听完 talk 之后如何去做，可以是尝试新的工具，可以是检讨现有的系统，也可以是专研任何新的插件。

所以我认为一个成功的 conference 不应该是一组 Presentation, 所有成员，组织者，讲者和听众的互动以及之后的延伸才是最重要的。

有人在国内用过 Engine Yard 吗？

Engine Yard 用的服务器好像都是北美的 Amazin EC2, 有国内有经验的使用者吗？担心墙内的用户访问起来会很慢
